Last Gypsys Retail Fireworks Tim Haines
As brilliant as they are onstage, they're complete plonkers off it. With rehearsals that often ending up at the bar before they've even started, they somehow wind up headlining their first, second and third actual shows? Who the hell do these guys think they are? Describing their sound as somewhere between the Brian Jonestown Massacre before the heroin, and Johnny Thunders before the...um, forget it. Short sour drinks? Long Cigarettes? Pointy boots? Some serious hairtime? Are they done in the mirror yet? What on earth is g minor? Who the hell is Billy Rose? Another round? sure... "Just because you wear boots and waistcoats doesn’t mean you are going to be a good band" was the first (maybe the last) compliment the Last Gypsys ever received, and they never looked back, or even up for that matter. I doubt they even heard it. Hitch a ride on the Last Gypsy caravan. They might be going somewhere...... not sure where though. 7pm, $6.

The RGBs
Black Chords
Eyal Chameides
Although a Melbourne-based band, the three boys from The RGBs herald from distant shores such as Switzerland and Peru via Malta. Somehow, they still manage to understand each other and the year 2007 thus saw them take to the stage for the first time with their original compositions at hand. With a penchant for pumping melodic indie rock tunes, The RGBs offer up an energetic and genuine set in which no two songs sound the same. So check out their upcoming gig with Eyal Chameides and Black Chords at The Tote Tuesday May 13 for just $4 from 8pm.

Six Ft Hick (Bris)
The Bakelite Age
Sailors & Swine Screwtop Detonators
A dual pronged rocknroll hydra - sleazing forth from the swamps, cane drains and lantana of Shitsville, Queensland. With a sound pilfered and plundered from the bottom drawers of rock n roll backed with an “if it aint broke - then lets fuck with it” attitude, they unapologetically stumble, drunkenly, headlong into the night. …. If you’ve never witnessed a SixFtHick show you’ve either been living under a rock or you’re in jail for murder. All up Sixfthick have played way over 700 shows, done 60+ East Coast Australian tours and toured Europe and Japan. SixFtHick do not pay for damages. They play rocknroll - Geographical RocknRoll - they are a product of their collective Queensland backwater upbringings. Naivety, blind stupidity and luck is their credo. A reputation as one of this country’s finest live rocknroll acts is justly earned. See them pummel the Tote again on Friday May 16 with The Bakelite Age and other quivering local acts.

Dave Mann Collective (album launch)
Rob Swayer
Jaimi Fawkner
The new long-awaited album from Perth’s Dave Mann Collective sees the band in full flight crossing the terrain from the organic blues and roots into the more universal rock landscape. With their new album Heart Over Mind the band has documented its natural evolution as an edgier more substantial musical entity. Dave Mann, a formidable songwriter, conjuring cathartic lyrics delivered with dynamics of strength as well as unabashed venerability... either way, he sings his heart out. At the core, is a rockin' three piece, enhanced by sometimes subtle, sometimes fully orchestrated layers of augmentation. Melodic beauty and raw energy exists with spontaneous improvisation and textural sound scapes in a rich tapestry of this sonic journey. Heart Over Mind is launched in Melbourne at The Tote on Saturday 17 May with guests Rob Sawyer and Jaimi Fawkner. $13, 9pm.

Abbe May & The Rockin Pneumonia
Sons Of Lee Marvin
Jack On Fire
An iron demeanour and stirring howl borne on the melancholic balladry of a grieving heart is Abbe May. At the centre of Abbe May’s charm is an extraordinary voice and uncompromising rock n roll attitude. As confrontational as it is vulnerable, Abbe May’s characteristically anguished moan conceals an undercurrent of hot-blooded intensity within sentimental words and grunge-fuelled candour of her music and band The Rockin’ Pneumonia. Abbe May is far from naïve beginner, fronting seminal rock band The Fuzz, who were Triple J Unearthed winners in 2003, and tours with Magic Dirt, You Am I and American legends The Breeders, as well a significant album ‘100 Demons’.
